Since January 9, the Entry/Exit System (EES) has been expanded at five new border crossing points in Romania: Foeni, Vălcani, Porțile de Fier I, Rădăuți-Prut and Siret. The EES, which became operational on December 10, 2025, applies to citizens from outside the European Union who make short stays (up to 90 days in any 180-day period).

The system collects biometric data, including facial images and fingerprints, to automatically register entries and exits, reducing waiting time at the border. The data is stored for 3 years, except in cases of entry refusal, when the period extends to 5 years. The EES gradually replaces the manual stamping of passports, and during the transition period, this will remain in effect. The expansion continues the implementation of the system in Romania, which already includes other border points.
