In 2024, Romania had the highest share of domestic travelers in the EU, with only 9% of Romanians traveling abroad.

According to Eurostat, travel in the EU increased by 4.4% in 2024, reaching 1.19 billion. Of these, 850 million were domestic, with Romania having the highest proportion at 90%. Total spending on travel was higher abroad, at 360.7 billion euros, compared to 257.2 billion euros for domestic travel. Accommodation and transportation were the main expenses.
