Radu Miruță, the Minister of Defense, stated that a drone entered the national airspace in Galați, flying at a very low altitude, which complicated monitoring.
Although the Romanian Army has the capacity to monitor the airspace, limitations arise in the case of small objects flying at low altitudes.
Miruță emphasized that, up to now, there have been no indications of increased risk in the area, and the General Staff of Defense is analyzing a possible relocation of defense systems at the border with Ukraine.
He mentioned that if the systems commanded through the SAFE program had been in place, the incident could have been avoided.
The drone was not intercepted because it was not detected by the radars covering higher altitudes.
The fragments of the drone are being analyzed to determine whether it was diverted or intentionally sent towards Romania, and the North Atlantic Alliance has been informed according to procedures.
