Raluca Turcan, PNL deputy, together with PSD senator Victoria Stoiciu, has submitted a bill to the Senate aimed at supporting victims of domestic violence. The project stipulates that individuals who have obtained a protection order, whether temporary or permanent, should benefit from free psychological counseling, fully reimbursed from health social insurance funds. This initiative comes in the context of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and aims to expand access to psychological support, considering that many victims do not reach specialized centers.
Turcan emphasizes the importance of this project, mentioning that many women live in fear and need not only physical protection but also a healing process. The project would reduce the financial risks associated with counseling, providing psychological interventions immediately after the issuance of the protection order. The state thus assumes an active role in remedying the situation of victims, not just in sanctioning aggressors. Turcan also presented alarming statistical data, highlighting that Romania has one of the highest rates of violence against women in the European Union, with over 40,000 cases reported in the first months of 2025.
