Marius Voineag, the head of DNA, confirmed that the case, which is one year old and includes dozens of volumes, targets not only the advertising but also the party's subsidies. The investigation was opened following a criminal complaint and has not led to the criminal prosecution of anyone so far. PNL has spent 2 million euros from public funds to promote Nicolae Ciucă's book.
