The prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) have ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings and judicial control for 60 days against Octavian Ciprian Topan, head of Legal Service 2 at the General Regional Directorate of Public Finances Bucharest, and Taiana Popovici, former executive legal director at the same institution. They are accused of bribery and influence peddling.
In the period of May-June 2022, Topan allegedly demanded 50,000 euros from a representative of a commercial company, leading them to believe that he could influence the decisions of ANAF. Additionally, in March 2023, he allegedly received 45,000 euros to issue a favorable opinion regarding a reorganization plan. Popovici is said to have received 15,000 euros in the same context. The two must comply with strict obligations during the judicial control, including the prohibition of leaving the country and communicating with the individuals involved in the case.
