DIICOT prosecutors, together with the judicial police, carried out searches in Ilfov and Suceava counties, targeting a criminal group that introduced counterfeit 50 US dollar banknotes into circulation. Between March and May 2025, four suspects coordinated currency exchange operations in 14 agencies, managing to place 844 counterfeit banknotes. Most of them were withdrawn from circulation, and the fakes were difficult to detect due to their superior quality. Six people will be heard at DIICOT.
