On the morning of Tuesday, April 7, a strong fire broke out in a wooden church in the locality of Săcălaz, Timiș County, completely destroying it. The building, used as a temporary chapel, was severely affected by the fire, which was reported through a call to the emergency number 112, around 07:25. The Timiș Emergency Situations Inspectorate quickly mobilized 28 firefighters from Fire Departments 1 and 2 in Timișoara, who used three fire engines, a truck with a fire container, a mechanical ladder, and a high-capacity water tanker. The intervention was complex, also supported by the Volunteer Emergency Situations Service from Săcălaz. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes, but the flames spread rapidly due to the wooden materials, completely destroying the church. No casualties were reported, but the material damages are total. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, and the inquiry will analyze the circumstances under which the fire broke out. The incident occurred during Holy Week, a period of significant religious importance in the Orthodox Christian calendar. The affected church was used for religious services in the absence of a permanent place of worship.
