A powerful explosion occurred on Friday morning in an apartment building in the Rahova neighborhood of Bucharest, severely affecting two floors of the building. According to ANRE, the distribution operator suspended the natural gas supply on October 16, but discovered on October 17 that the seal applied to the electrovalve had been broken. The explosion occurred shortly after the seal was found to be broken. Following the incident, 3 people died, and 13 were injured.
The 'Dimitrie Bolintineanu' Theoretical High School, located nearby, was evacuated, and the head of DSU, Raed Arafat, stated that the building presents a risk of collapse, necessitating the complete evacuation of the residents. Control teams are already on the ground to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy.
"What I ordered today, as President of ANRE: Control at Distrigaz Sud Rețele to verify whether the operator's actions and interventions complied with legal provisions. Checks will also be conducted at the companies that ensured the verification of natural gas-consuming equipment at the consumption site. Data communicated to ANRE by the distribution operator:
- October 16: Following a report, the operator suspended the gas supply remotely, via electrovalve. Subsequently, a crew went to the address and sealed the electrovalve.
- October 17: Upon a new report, the crew that arrived at the location found that the previously applied seal was broken." stated George Niculescu, president of ANRE.
