Dan Vîlceanu's trial, former minister and PNL deputy, began on Tuesday at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, being accused of assault, abusive behavior, and disturbing public order. The incident took place in 2024, when Vîlceanu allegedly hit and scratched his colleague Florin Roman in Parliament, an act captured by surveillance cameras. In February 2025, the court identified a irregularity in the indictment, asking the prosecutor to remedy the issue. Vîlceanu was sent to trial after it was established that he had exercised violence against Roman, causing injuries that required medical attention.
Additionally, Vîlceanu is accused of making insulting remarks, thus disturbing public order. Although he benefits from parliamentary immunity for political opinions, he can be tried for acts that are not related to his activity as a parliamentarian. Vîlceanu expressed regret for the incident, wishing to resolve the conflict amicably. Roman claimed that he was provoked during the altercation.
