The Dacia Vehicle Plant in Mioveni will temporarily suspend production on Friday, October 9, and Monday, October 12, 2026, amid developments in the automotive market and the need to adapt production to order volumes. The decision was communicated to employees through an internal memo from the Communications Directorate of Renault Group Romania.
Employees who are not scheduled to work on the two days will remain at home and receive the salary entitlements provided for in the Collective Labour Agreement. Activities required to ensure operational continuity and resume production will continue. These include reworking and realignment, the manufacture and shipment of spare parts, logistics operations, truck unloading, and parts inventory.
The measure follows a decision by Dacia and Ford to temporarily halt production during the summer until August 19, amid an energy crisis and reduced energy production. At the time, the government also considered a mechanism for mandatory consumption limits for large consumers if voluntary reductions proved insufficient.
Romania's automotive industry is also facing pressure on its competitiveness. Mihai Bordeanu, a member of the Board of the Concordia Employers' Confederation and director of the Dacia brand for Southeastern Europe, warned that Romania risks losing 20–25% of its automotive industry next year, in terms of turnover, employees, and production. He pointed to rising energy prices and the fact that the future electric Dacia will be produced in Slovenia, while a C-segment model will be made in Turkey.
