Mike Turner, head of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, emphasized that the robust presence of American forces in Europe is essential, considering Russia's aggressive actions.

"It is in the interest of our national security to support our NATO allies, who are justifiably increasing their investments in their defense capabilities," Turner added in a post on X.

Jeanne Shaheen criticized the decision as profoundly misguided, arguing that it undermines efforts to pressure Putin and affects the defense capabilities of European partners. She called on President Trump to clarify the U.S. commitment to Romania, emphasizing that the withdrawal of troops would send the wrong signal to Putin. Shaheen added that the decision does not appear to have been coordinated with the White House or Congress, calling for its swift reversal to maintain U.S. credibility in NATO.
