Cristian Ghinea, USR senator, launched severe criticisms against president Nicușor Dan, describing him as a "dysfunctional character" and "harmful for Romania". In a podcast, Ghinea claimed that Dan "cynically" exploited the weaknesses of Elena Lasconi during the electoral campaign, self-proclaiming himself as the only pro-European candidate capable of reaching the second round.
Ghinea questioned the funding sources for the polls promoted by Dan, without providing concrete evidence. The criticisms also extended to Lasconi, whom Ghinea accused of strategic mistakes and self-sabotage. Following the 2025 elections, Lasconi received only 2.68% of the votes, while Nicușor Dan entered the final round, defeating George Simion. Ghinea acknowledged that he had moments of doubt regarding his assessment, but returned to his criticism, considering that Dan is a 'fool' who has reached important positions without a clear purpose.
