The former Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu stated that the risks of a conflict between Russia and NATO are now greater than in the past. He emphasized that Moscow is taking increasingly risky actions while maintaining a plausible denial of its intentions. Diaconescu highlighted the necessity of active dialogue with the United States, especially after the decision to withdraw a brigade of American soldiers from Romania.

He suggested that Romania needs to be proactive in discussions with American partners to ensure the security of NATO's eastern flank. In the context of criticisms from the American Congress regarding the troop withdrawal, Diaconescu stated that Romania cannot remain passive and must actively participate in negotiations to protect its security interests. This situation underscores the importance of strengthening cooperation between Romania and the USA, especially in the face of increasing challenges from Russia.
