Călin Georgescu’s pretrial detention was extended by another 30 days on Wednesday evening, while his wife, Cristela Georgescu, accused the authorities of procedural irregularities and violating the right to a defense. In a message published on Călin Georgescu’s Facebook page, she claimed that the defense had learned about the court’s ruling from the media, before it was officially communicated.

Cristela Georgescu stated that the situation had allegedly been repeated in the cases concerning her husband following the November 2024 presidential election. She publicly complained that information about the cases, witness statements, and court decisions had been published in the media before the defense was informed.

In the message, she called Călin Georgescu a “political prisoner” and claimed that the right to a defense, confidentiality, and the presumption of innocence were allegedly being systematically violated. The statements represent the family’s position and were not accompanied, in the quoted message, by documents demonstrating the alleged irregularities.

Cristela Georgescu also accused the authorities of allegedly conducting video surveillance of the home and stated that the family, including the minor children, was allegedly being subjected to psychological pressure. She announced that she intended to present internationally what she considers to be abuses and political persecution.
