Former PNL leader Crin Antonescu launched a fierce attack on the National Liberal Party and MEP Siegfried Mureșan in a post published on Facebook. Antonescu argues that the problem is not the politician, but the party, which, in his view, is abandoning its past, principles and points of reference in exchange for validation from former opponents and political commentators.
Antonescu says that Mureșan “has skillfully and luckily found an ideal place in which to survive and prosper.” He describes him as a politician intelligent enough and free of moral constraints, arguing that he has remained consistent in his stance toward Traian Băsescu, Laura Codruța Kovesi and Monica Macovei.
However, the main criticism is directed at the PNL leadership. The former liberal leader accuses the party of disavowing “its own past, its own name, its own coat of arms” in exchange for a few words of praise addressed to Ilie Bolojan and, more recently, Siegfried Mureșan.
In the same post, Antonescu mocks the PNL’s rapprochement with the USR sphere and suggests that the party could eventually nominate Traian Băsescu as honorary president. The message ends sarcastically, with an appeal to support Mureșan and a reference to the liberals’ “hero,” described as “ridiculous, but tenacious.”
