Former liberal leader Crin Antonescu launched a very harsh attack against some representatives of USR, in a post published on Facebook, after the controversy regarding the daughter of former Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
"No one can suspect me of sympathizing with Mr. Ponta. Few people have as many reasons as I do to detest him. And I do detest him. Definitely. But what happened to his daughter, Irina, fills me with disgust and horror. These USR creatures (Mrs. Toiu and company) are the most miserable scum I have seen in Romanian politics since 1989. To prevent a minor from taking a plane to her country (in a limited situation), on grounds of 'image', is the most miserable, most outrageous, most inhuman thing I have seen since I have lived in or around the mud of Romanian politics.
I am fully in solidarity with Irina Ponta, with Daciana Sârbu (a person I admire, from a distance, for her decency and dignity) and, yes, even with Victor Ponta. Because I know what it means to protect your child from the stupid hatred of all idiots. And I believe, more than ever, that these human trash who self-title as 'reformers' of Romanian political life must disappear from our lives. No one - no matter how sinful - has ever clashed with an absolutely innocent child out of hatred for their parents or for 'image' reasons. Romania urgently needs to rid itself of the political and moral poison called USR." wrote Crin Antonescu on his Facebook page.
