The mayor of Craiova, Olguţa Vasilescu, announced the signing of a contract with Electrica for the development of a high-efficiency cogeneration plant, powered by natural gas, which will supply thermal agent in the centralized system of the city.
The project, which will replace the coal source, is scheduled to become operational in the first semester of next year, along with the installation of hot water boilers. The new plant will be flexible, ready for hydrogen use, and will have autonomous startup capacity. The project includes two phases: the first will install the boilers, and the second will activate the cogeneration engines.
This will reduce pollution emissions, improving air quality in Craiova. The total investment amounts to approximately 235 million euros, and the plant will have an electrical power of 82 MW and a thermal capacity of 179 Gcal/h.
The project will allow the City Hall to collaborate with a new partner for thermal energy production, in accordance with European regulations.
