The war between the Romanian Federation of Sport Fishing (FRPS) and the National Agency for Fishing and Aquaculture (ANPA) is intensifying, with Ștefan Popescu, the president of FRPS, announcing that he has requested a court ban on recreational fishing certificates, including those issued until 2026. Popescu stated that permits will be revoked by the end of January and emphasized that fishermen must affiliate with FRPS in order to practice fishing. Currently, FRPS has over 10,000 members, but a significant increase in this number is expected. Popescu mentioned that fishing, if managed correctly, can contribute 1% to Romania's GDP, but the money from this activity is wasted. There are also over 300 sports clubs affiliated with FRPS, and the affiliation fee is approximately 100 lei per year.
