The National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives (CNSAS) initiated a process at the Bucharest Court of Appeal on March 17, regarding the determination of the status of worker/collaborator of Securitate in the case of Gigi Nețoiu. This action comes in the context of the verifications carried out during the campaign for the elections at the Capital City Hall, which took place at the end of last year.

CNSAS confirmed that Nețoiu was a member of the Securitate of Bucharest Municipality between 1985 and 1989. In an interview, Nețoiu admitted that he worked as an information officer, having 150 subordinates under his command. The trial takes place in the context of legal regulations regarding collaboration with Securitate during the communist period, when the communist power exercised terror over citizens. Last year, Nețoiu ran as an independent candidate for mayor, obtaining only 1,000 votes. Until now, the first court date has not been set.
