The Republic of Moldova’s Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Claudiu Năsui, said Tuesday in an interview with Agerpres that the Republic of Moldova is outperforming Romania in certain areas, particularly digitalization. A former Economy Minister in the Bucharest government, Năsui says Romania has lessons to learn from Chișinău in this sector.
The official identified two priority areas for his mandate: reforming state-owned companies and reducing the administrative burden through debureaucratization and the simplification of regulations. In his view, these measures could support entrepreneurs and companies in the Republic of Moldova and contribute to improving the economy’s health.
Năsui said there is a real opportunity for reform in Chișinău, supported by a more urgent economic need than in Romania, which has more protection mechanisms. He explained that reforms must be implemented so that the Moldovan economy can stabilize.
Referring to the International Commodity Exchange, inaugurated recently, the minister said it could facilitate access to capital, corporate financing and a more efficient allocation of resources. Năsui had previously accepted the proposal of the Republic of Moldova’s Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, to take over the portfolio in Chișinău, after which he would relinquish his mandate as a member of the Romanian Parliament. His appointment was criticized by the Kremlin, which described it as a failure for pro-Western forces.
