The Ciumeghiu Town Hall in Bihor County was sanctioned with a fine of 70,000 lei after an Environmental Guard drone captured a local authority-hired excavator illegally burying waste in a field. The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced that this is the first confiscation of a machine as a result of using drones to monitor environmental crimes. The excavator was used to illegally manage waste made of plastics, textiles, and vegetation, over an area of approximately 2 hectares, near an agricultural road. The waste should have been sorted and recycled, not dumped clandestinely. Additionally, the Ciumeghiu Local Authority was required to clean up the affected area. Diana Buzoianu praised the Environmental Guard for using drones to identify environmental violations.
