The general mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that the city will transform into a huge construction site for 4-5 years, taking on potential criticism from the Bucharest residents. In an interview, he explained that the municipality was forced to open several construction sites simultaneously for the modernization of the tram lines, otherwise it risks losing European funds.
Ciucu emphasized that the city's infrastructure has reached its breaking point, with tram lines that are 50-60 years old. He promised that by the end of this process, the city will look significantly better.
The mayor also mentioned the necessity of rehabilitating the sewage system and other essential works, including in Herăstrău Park, where the banks are at risk of collapsing. He also acknowledged that the discomfort caused by the construction sites is inevitable, but emphasized that it is a necessary measure to civilize the city.
