Ciprian Ciucu, the General Mayor of the Capital, arrived Wednesday morning at the Bucharest Tribunal, where the judges decide whether to maintain the judicial control in the case in which he is accused of taking bribes during the electoral campaign.

Although he was supposed to present himself to the Police to sign the judicial control, Ciucu requested a waiver to first attend the court hearing. He was placed under judicial control after four hours of hearings by the DNA prosecutors. Ciprian Ciucu stated that he will continue to work on the projects of the City Hall, being unaware of the reasons that led to the opening of this case.

The accusations concern the receipt of undue benefits from two businessmen in exchange for the issuance of permits for a real estate project. The investigation was expanded from another corruption case related to the National Office for Gambling, involving several acts of corruption and the extension of investigations towards Ciprian Ciucu.
