The Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, announced on Facebook the plans for the modernization of the tram lines in Bucharest, emphasizing the urgent need for safe and rehabilitated lines. The City Hall has obtained funding of 265.5 million euros for the modernization of the tram lines and 76.5 million euros for the purchase of new trams, with a completion deadline by 2029.

Ciucu explained that the rehabilitation of the lines must be correlated with investments in water and sewage infrastructure to avoid repeated works. He requested coordination with Apa Nova to prioritize investments. The mayor warned that Bucharest residents will experience discomfort due to multiple construction sites and announced discussions with the European Investment Bank for co-financing. The works will target important arteries in the city, and Ciucu promises additional details as the projects develop.
