The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) rejected, on Thursday, the challenge regarding the Law approving the amendments to the Government's Emergency Ordinance on the establishment of the "Action for the Security of Europe" (SAFE) instrument.

The objection was formulated by over 50 deputies from the AUR, SOS Romania, PACE parties, and independent deputies. The law aims to approve the Government's Emergency Ordinance no. 21/2026, which amends and supplements the Government's Emergency Ordinance no. 62/2005, with the goal of strengthening the European defense industry.

The decision was made by a majority vote. There were 69 votes "for", three "against" and 31 abstentions.

The ordinance was also contested by the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, but this challenge will be judged by the CCR on June 10.
