Călin Georgescu, a former candidate in the presidential elections, has been sent to trial for legionary propaganda, aiming to change the perception of the fascist movement and the legionary movement, including through the "possibility of using violence," the prosecutors' indictment shows.

Călin Georgescu will appear again before the court of the Sector 1 Court on April 28, where he is being tried in the legionary propaganda case.

According to the indictment cited by Digi24, prosecutors say that the former presidential candidate aimed to try to normalize and "revitalize legionaryism and the historical figures connected to this ideology, in which context he made several xenophobic statements, but also laudatory ones regarding Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, Ion Antonescu, and Ion Mota."

Between 2020 and 2025, Georgescu made public statements promoting ideas related to "violence to achieve goals considered legitimate."

His speeches, including one from October 2021, "not only reproduced the words but also the gestures and tone of Marshal Ion Antonescu in the speech delivered at the great legionary gathering on October 6, 1940," and prosecutors highlighted his connections with supporters of the legionary ideology, such as Marian Motocu.

Prosecutors emphasized that Georgescu's closeness to Motocu and Eugen Sechilă is "essential in the context of revealing the entire ideological and political doctrine of the defendant Călin Georgescu."

Investigators obtained approval to monitor Georgescu, suspecting that he intends to leave Romania to evade criminal prosecution. This situation is complicated by other cases in which he is involved, including an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order.
