Călin Georgescu is reportedly set to be transferred from the Central Detention Center of the Capital Police to Rahova Penitentiary, several days after he was placed in preventive custody for 30 days. The information was reported by Antena 3 CNN sources and has not been officially confirmed to date.
According to the cited sources, the move would be prompted by complaints from residents living near the detention center, who allegedly complained about the noise made by supporters of the former presidential candidate. In recent days, dozens of sympathizers have gathered in front of the Central Detention Center, where metal barriers were installed and a cordon of gendarmes was formed.
Georgescu was taken into custody by police officers on September 29, from his home in Mogoșoaia, and on the same day the Bucharest Court of Appeal definitively ordered his preventive detention for 30 days. The measure also concerns businessman Ionel Rusen.
The two are being investigated by DIICOT for forming an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences, on a continued basis. Investigators claim that the damage exceeds 1.1 million euros.
