The Buzău City Hall has decided to implement traffic restrictions on Nicolae Bălcescu Boulevard, valid from spring until autumn on weekends, to protect the chestnut trees on this green artery. Mayor Constantin Toma emphasized the necessity of this measure for the conservation of mature trees, considering the impact of pollution and heavy traffic.

The boulevard, with approximately 500 chestnut trees, is a symbol of the city and an important place for walks and events. The measure is inspired by practices adopted in other European cities, such as Paris, Madrid, and Copenhagen, which have implemented traffic restrictions to improve urban life quality. Toma mentioned that, although the restrictions are in effect on weekends, there is discussion about the possibility of extending these measures, considering the importance of the boulevard as a promenade space.
