Bulgaria, Romania and Greece will submit joint applications for European funding dedicated to transport infrastructure

The transport ministries of Bulgaria, Romania and Greece will submit joint applications under the 2026 call for projects of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), targeting the transport sector. The call is open until October 6, 2026, and includes the Cohesion Package and the Military Mobility Package.

The projects focus mainly on the European Baltic Sea–Black Sea–Aegean Sea corridor and on connected sections of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The initiative is based on the Memorandum on Enhanced Cross-Border Cooperation, signed in Brussels on December 3, 2025, and its related action plan.

Under the Cohesion Package, pre-feasibility studies are planned for the Mihaylovo–Dimitrovgrad and Lyubimets–Svilengrad–border with Greece railway sections.

The Military Mobility Package includes extending the Struma motorway to the Kulata border crossing, a study for the Veliko Tarnovo–Nikolaevo–Maritsa motorway, and electrifying the railway line between the Bridge over the Danube and Ruse Marshalling Yard. The projects aim to streamline passenger and freight transport, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and develop connections for both civilian and military use.
