Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan reacted in a Facebook post following the crash of a Russian drone on a building in Galați. He firmly condemns the incident and calls on Russia to stop such actions. Bolojan also mentions the need to strengthen national security to effectively protect citizens. He acknowledges that the national defense response has been limited due to a lack of equipment, emphasizing the importance of the SAFE program, which is expected to provide the necessary technology for more effective defense against drones.
“This situation is unacceptable and represents a new violation of airspace, generated by the irresponsible and unjustified continuation of the war waged by Russia in Ukraine. This war continues to affect the security of Romania and the states on the Eastern Flank.
I condemn without reservation these serious actions and firmly demand that Russia immediately put an end to them.
Strengthening national security, to ensure the protection of our citizens, must remain the absolute priority for the authorities and political forces in Romania. This is the objective we have pursued, including through the EU's SAFE program, but it is clear that all our efforts and actions must be accelerated.
The Romanian defense response has been limited by the level of equipment.
This is further proof of the importance of the SAFE program, through which we will ensure complete anti-drone equipment for the Romanian Army. The contract will be signed in the next few hours. In a few months, the delivery of anti-drone capabilities will begin,” wrote Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Facebook.
