Strong winds and high waves have caused the sand terraces to collapse and red flags have been raised banning swimming. Tourists describe the situation as desolate and risky, especially for children and the elderly. Marine biologists explain the phenomenon as "cliffing" and Romanian waters will intervene to level the affected beaches.
