A Border Police officer from Bihor is being investigated for taking bribes and has been placed under judicial supervision for 60 days after allegedly asking for and receiving €300 from a foreign national. The money was allegedly requested to allow the driver to continue his journey through Romania to Greece.
The alleged offense took place on the night of September 11–12, 2025, in the area of the Borș I Border Crossing Point. The officer, together with two other Border Police officers, allegedly stopped a road vehicle registered in another European Union member state for inspection.
According to prosecutors, the officer allegedly cited irregularities concerning the periodic technical inspection and threatened to impose an €800 fine if the driver did not pay the requested amount. After more than 30 minutes, the foreign national allegedly placed the banknotes in his passport, which he subsequently handed to the officer.
Two other Border Police officers are also being investigated in the same case for aiding and abetting the taking of bribes. The officer has been barred from practicing his profession and from contacting the other suspects and witnesses. The investigation is being supported by the Bihor branch of the General Anticorruption Directorate and is continuing to establish all the circumstances.
