The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced financing of up to 44 million euros for the development of a battery energy storage system in Scornicești, Romania. The project, co-owned by R.Power S.A. and Eiffel Investment Group, will provide an installed capacity of 127 MW / 254 MWh, enhancing Romania's energy security.
By storing electricity, the project will facilitate the integration of renewable energy, improving grid stability. It will be among the first large-scale independent energy storage systems in Romania, demonstrating the commercial viability of this emerging sector. The project includes educational activities to encourage young people and women to get involved in the energy sector. The financing is supported by an InvestEU guarantee, which reduces associated risks. EBRD has invested over 12.5 billion euros in 591 projects in Romania to date.
