Former president Traian Băsescu sent a clear message to the current head of state, Nicușor Dan, emphasizing that, to win a second term, he needs his own political structure, a party to support him. Băsescu explained that, although a mandate can be obtained as an independent, the second is much more difficult without political support. He appreciated Nicușor Dan's reaction to the booing in Focșani, considering him a robust politician, in contrast to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, whom he criticized for his withdrawal at key moments.

Băsescu condemned the whistling of the national anthem, considering it a sign of the degradation of education in Romania. He was also reserved regarding a possible change of the prime minister, mentioning that Nicușor Dan should focus on building a political force to remain relevant in the political landscape. He warned that Dan could make a mistake if he gets involved in canceling the 2024 elections, suggesting that the competent institutions should deal with such issues. Băsescu's conclusion is that without a party, Nicușor Dan will be vulnerable to political challenges.
