In an interview for ȘtirileProTV.ro, former president Traian Băsescu stated that the current political crisis is the result of the fraud of the 2024 presidential elections, claiming that Romanians voted influenced by content on TikTok, not by political debates.
Băsescu explained that president Nicușor Dan was forced to abandon candidate Tomac and opt for a political government, as the parties did not provide candidates. He emphasized that the elections were tainted by systematic manipulation, which prevented the electorate from understanding what they were voting for.
The former president detailed how voters were disoriented by the large number of ballots and emphasized that the phenomenon also affected the rural environment, where citizens are familiar with social networks. Băsescu concluded that no one benefited from this situation, and the major losers were the leaders of the PSD-PNL alliance.
He mentioned that, in the absence of annulment of the elections, Călin Georgescu could have been a major beneficiary. However, he clarified that his accusations do not contest the legitimacy of Nicușor Dan's election as president.
