On Friday, in the Bâlea Lake area, a large avalanche occurred, accidentally triggered by two skiers who were in the area known as 'Balcoane'. The avalanche had a runout path of over 300 meters, extending from the upper area all the way beyond the slopes at Bâlea Lake. The two skiers managed to retreat to safety and did not suffer any physical injuries. The mountain rescuers from Sibiu recommend that tourists check the snow and weather bulletin before engaging in mountain activities and avoid winter sports at altitudes above 1,800 m, where the risk of avalanche is increased.
