Petrișor Peiu, AUR senator, has addressed an open letter to the President and the Prime Minister, asking for the exclusion of the social health insurance contribution (CASS) for the indemnities of former political prisoners, according to Decree-Law 118/1990. He argues that these allowances represent moral compensation and should not be subject to taxation, as the beneficiaries already have other income from which they pay CASS. Peiu emphasizes that the application of CASS is unjustified and disproportionate, seriously affecting moral compensation. He also compares the situation with the recent decisions to return former President Traian Băsescu's benefits, calling for fair social justice for victims of the communist regime.
