In the context of rising fuel prices, the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has begun a series of nationwide inspections to prevent and combat tax non-compliance practices. The actions target the entire distribution chain, from importers and wholesalers to final retailers, aiming to identify economic operators who may create tax advantages by artificially inflating purchase costs. ANAF inspectors are investigating suspicions of tax fraud that may affect market integrity.
In cases where facts affecting fair competition are found, the competent institutions will be notified. The purpose of these actions is to ensure tax compliance and a fair competitive environment, essential for stabilizing the fuel market. President Nicușor Dan announced that he expects a set of measures from the Romanian state to address the issue of fuel prices, following discussions with industry operators. Fuel prices have been steadily increasing, with premium diesel exceeding 10 lei per liter in many stations, and recent price hikes are related to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
