A 39-year-old anesthesiologist from Vatra Dornei has been placed in preventive detention, being accused by DIICOT prosecutors of embezzlement and possession of high-risk drugs for personal use.
Investigators claim that, between June 2025 and April 24, 2026, the doctor repeatedly stole narcotic substances from the hospital pharmacy, including morphine and fentanyl, which he consumed during working hours, even during surgical interventions. The Suceava Tribunal approved the preventive arrest proposal, and the doctor was caught in the act during a surgery, having vials of morphine and mialgin on him.
A physical examination revealed traces of injections on the forearms, and previously, he had also purchased high-risk synthetic drugs. The case has sparked strong reactions within the medical system in Romania.
