According to statistics, almost 60% of families in Romania live in small apartments, a significantly higher percentage than the European average of 25%. Romanian legislation stipulates that a studio must have a minimum of 37 square meters, but the reality shows that many Romanians live in much smaller spaces, sometimes even under 10 square meters. These homes are often rented or sold as studios, and buyers choose them due to a lack of financial options.
Additionally, prices for larger apartments are prohibitive; a four-room apartment costs on average 150,000 euros, which requires considerable savings for those with average salaries. The problem is exacerbated by developers who build spaces below legal standards, recently, authorities stopped the sale of over 3,000 non-compliant apartments.
