In Romania, the notion of home comfort is undergoing a significant change, with census data showing large discrepancies between counties. While Bucharest has 58.7% of homes equipped with air conditioning, mountainous counties like Harghita (0.63%) and Suceava (1.63%) rely on traditional cooling methods.

Compared to other countries, Romania is below the European average of 20% and far below the USA, where 90% of homes have air conditioning. Installation costs range from 600 to 1,200 lei, and their use raises ecological concerns, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

Experts emphasize that, although air conditioning can reduce health risks during heatwaves, it is essential to adopt other measures to adapt to the changing climate.
