Alexandru Nazare, heard at DNA in the anti-COVID vaccine case

Alexandru Nazare, the interim Minister of Finance, is being heard on Wednesday at the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) as a witness in the anti-COVID vaccine case.

Nazare held the position of Minister of Finance in the government of Florin Cîțu, when the vaccine purchases took place. According to DNA, Vlad Voiculescu, former minister Ioana Mihăilă, and former prime minister Florin Cîțu are accused of having purchased over 52.8 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, worth over one billion euros, in addition to the existing need.

Nazare opposed the purchase of such a large quantity, considering that the doses previously contracted were sufficient for vaccinating over 23 million people. Additionally, Romania is facing a debt of 600 million euros to Pfizer, after the court ruled that the country must receive the remaining doses.

The Minister of Health and Nazare discussed with Pfizer representatives to find a solution to this problem.
