A detainee from Baia Mare Penitentiary escaped from a work site, claiming that he is going home to kill his wife.

On Wednesday, a 28-year-old inmate escaped from a work point located at Racoviță High School in the municipality of Baia Mare, around 1:30 PM. According to the spokesperson of Baia Mare Penitentiary, Norbert Borgyos, the man stated in discussions with other inmates that he intends to kill his wife after a phone argument with her.

The inmate, sentenced to 3 years and 7 months for aggravated theft, was wearing a black t-shirt and dark purple pants. Authorities have mobilized search teams and alerted the Maramureș County Police Inspectorate, as well as other institutions. Leaving the work point is considered an escape, according to the Penal Code, and is punishable by imprisonment.

Citizens are advised not to approach him and to immediately notify the police if they see him. The penitentiary management has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the escape.
