A 77-year-old man from Bihor was detained after allegedly setting fire to a car, with the fire spreading to other property

A 77-year-old man from Bihor County was detained and is being investigated for arson-related property damage after allegedly setting fire to a car in the village of Petid. The fire affected a second vehicle and part of a building, while the damage was estimated at approximately 70,000 lei. No one was injured.

The investigation began after a car caught fire during the night of October 19. Police determined that the fire was not accidental and that the suspect allegedly used an accelerant to start it. According to investigators, the act was allegedly committed between 2:39 a.m. and 2:52 a.m.

The car was completely destroyed. The flames spread to another vehicle parked nearby and damaged the building’s façade, windows and access door, as well as part of the roof.

On October 21, police searched the man’s home in the commune of Cociuba Mare. Based on the evidence gathered, he was detained for 24 hours, with investigators to take the legal measures required as the investigation continues.
