Monitoring of the platform continues under EU legislation

The EU states that it does not tolerate the sale of illegal products

No timeline for conclusions or measures has been announced

In the daily briefing in Brussels, the European Commission specified that the request for information addressed to Shein concerned the measures taken by the platform to prevent the sale of products that do not comply with European standards. According to the EU executive, the company's response has been received and is currently being evaluated by the competent services.

Commission officials emphasized that monitoring is ongoing and that European authorities remain vigilant regarding compliance with product safety and consumer protection rules. "We do not tolerate the sale of illegal products in the European Union," the Commission stated, without detailing any preliminary findings.

The EU executive avoided anticipating possible measures or sanctions, stating that any action will depend on the results of the evaluation and the applicable legal framework. At this stage, the case is in the analysis and monitoring phase.

Large online trading platforms are under increased scrutiny at the EU level, in the context of new rules regarding digital services and product safety. The European Commission has the authority to request information, monitor trading practices, and, if necessary, initiate procedures to ensure compliance with European legislation in the internal market.
