Cinema operators were surprised by Netflix's announcement regarding the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, fearing the negative impact on the industry. Unlike traditional studios, Netflix does not adhere to the classic distribution model, raising concerns that this acquisition will reduce the number of films available in cinemas, affecting ticket sales. The Cinema United Association warned that sales represent an unprecedented threat, estimating a possible 25% reduction in annual box office. Although Netflix has promised that Warner Bros. productions will continue to be released in cinemas, uncertainty persists, considering that Netflix does not respect the traditional exclusivity window and does not publish box office results. Current Warner Bros. contracts for theatrical releases are negotiated until 2029, but cinema operators remain skeptical about the future of the collaboration.
