The Pannonhalma Abbey, a UNESCO site with a 1,000-year history, is facing an advanced cockroach infestation threatening its 400,000 volumes. Specialists have begun the disinfection process, removing about 100,000 books to treat them in an oxygen-free environment. The library director emphasizes the importance of preserving this historic collection, considering each book a valuable element of cultural and religious heritage. The infestation has been aggravated by climate change and restorers are determined to save these literary treasures.
