The first images from “Artificial,” the film directed by Luca Guadagnino about Sam Altman and the events of 2023, when he was dismissed and then reinstated as head of OpenAI, have been released. Andrew Garfield portrays Altman, Ike Barinholtz plays Elon Musk, and Monica Barbaro are part of the cast.

Amazon MGM, which financed the $40 million production, declined to distribute it after filming was completed. The film was subsequently acquired by the independent company Neon. Garfield said he fears the audience’s reactions, but that the film does not aim to turn Altman into either a hero or a villain. “Artificial” will arrive in cinemas in the United Kingdom and Ireland on January 22, 2027, and will be screened at the London Film Festival in October.
