The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will intensify monitoring of Russian athletes until the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, following their reintegration by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Director General of WADA, Olivier Niggli, stated that the organization is not naive and will implement additional tests for athletes who may participate in competitions. Although there is no concrete evidence of concern, Niggli mentioned that all samples from Russia are analyzed abroad, considering the suspension of the Russian anti-doping agency (Rusada). It remains suspended due to the institutionalized doping scandal from the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The President of WADA, Witold Banka, emphasized the need to ensure the independence of anti-doping tests and proposed that only independent entities conduct these tests. Although relations with national agencies, such as USADA, are strained, Banka assured that the fight against doping will not be affected.
